General information
Who is the owner of the database?
Data gathered with EM1 and stored on EM1 servers are the customer's exclusive
property. At the end of the contract data is given back to the customer in electronic format by email or on a CD-Rom.
What is an Application Service Provider (ASP)?
Salesware is an Application Service Provider, a website that provides
software used with a standard browser with a connection to the Internet, without the need
to install any software on your own PCs or the need to have specialized technical staff. The software is
rented for the required period of time. Every technical aspect, such as
software updates, the operating system management, backup, performance monitoring, etc. is carried out by Salesware.
What does “spamming” mean?
Spamming means sending unsolicited email messages or newsletters to customers through the Internet.
Can I spam by using EM1?
Spamming is illegal according to Privacy Law and Netiquette (good manners for the Internet).
It is not permitted through EM1.
Does EM1 supply and resell email addresses?
No, EM1 is a service to manage subscription requests, message delivery, real time
result monitoring and unsubscription. Email recipients’ addresses are provided by the company that uses the service and not by EM1.
Technical information Can I install the software on my computers?
One of the main characteristics of EM1
is that it can be used with a standard
browser and a connection
to the Internet and it doesn’t require installation on the customer’s computer or website.
How is data security ensured?
EM1 offers high security standards.
a) Site-page encryption. When a customer opens his database on the Internet, a data transfer from the Salesware website to his computer occurs. During this transfer data are encrypted.
Therefore, should these be illegally intercepted, it will be impossible to read them. For data encryption Salesware uses the SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) system with
a digital certificate issued by the US company Verisign listed on the NASDAQ stock market (symbol VRSN). This cryptography system is one of the most reliable in the world.
b) Presence of firewalls. The customer’s database is recorded on servers resident at the data center of the US company Interland listed
on the NASDAQ stock market (symbol INLD). The Interland data center is protected by a number of Cisco firewalls (symbol CSCO), which prevent unauthorized access to servers, inbound and outbound.
Which operating systems and browser do I require to use EM1?
The EM1 software uses Internet technical standards and can be used with Microsoft operating systems (Windows 3.1/95/98/2000/2003/ME/XP and Windows NT 3.51/4.0), Macintosh,
Unix and Linux. Therefore, most versions of the most common browsers are supported, from Microsoft Internet Explorer to Netscape.
To start-up the service, do I requirea visit from a Salesware technician to my office?
No, all necessary technical operations are done through the Internet.
What is a web form (a form to request info and/or subscribe to newsletters)?
A 'Web Form' is an Internet website page which contains a particular feature of
HTML language, supported by all the main browsers, the <form> tag gives the opportunity to create a form to request info and/or subscribe to newsletters so that, once filled in, information is automatically inserted into the database.
Should my website be modified to use EM1?
If yuo don't already have one, it is sufficient to add a web form
(a form to request info and/or subscribe to newsletters) to a page of your website.
If a web form is already on my website, can EM1 be used?
Yes, by modifying the existing webform or by creating a new one to add
to or modify the existing one.
Can I import existing data into EM1 database?
Yes, it is possible. We just need to know the data format (for example, if Text, Microsoft Access or Microsoft Excel) to find the best way to do it.
Should I change my Internet Provider?
No, it is not necessary to change your Internet Provider.
