How to choose the software to
send newsletters: self-service data import or done by the supplier?
To maximize the results of email
marketing it is suggested to use a professional software.
When choosing the one that best fit your
needs, there some functionalities, lika data import, that.
- you can use on your own (self-service),
- or your supplier does for you.
It could seem a not important detail, but is fundamental.
Data import is necessary at the beginning
When the supplier sets-up your account, he also import the data.
Other data import are necessary when, for example:
- you must update the database,
- you must send the newsletter only to people who have attended a seminar.
It is possible to import data in two
different ways:
- self-service,
- done by the supplier.
Self-service
Some software allow to the customer to import data on his own, but with limitations;
infact you often must:
- convert the data into a specific type (like text, XML, etc.),
- have the name of the fileds as the software wants, (for example email has
to be "e-mail")
If only one of the above is not true, data import fails.
Companies do not always has in-house these technical skills, or
people who have it have other priorities.
This can be a boottleneck, because
the newsletter is ready to be send but the customer is not able to import
the email addresses.
Done by the supplier
To simplify data-import, we offer a data-import service
and our customers do not have to handle technical details (like data types
and fields name); they just give us the data as they have it and we:
- convert it in the appropriate data type,
- rename the fields,
- delete duplications.
Suggestion
To avoid surprises when you choose an email marketing software, pay attention
if there are activities that you must do self-service, and you
couldn't have time and/or the skills to do them.
In particular, carefully evaluate how to import data.
It is a very important details that, when correctly managed, allows
you to save time and to increase your ROI.
